Description |
| |
|
Spray drying is by definition the transformation of feed from a fluid state into a dried particulate form by Spraying the feed into a hot drying medium. It is one step. Continuous particle - particle processing operations involving drying. Spray drying is a unique drying process, since it involves both particle formation and drying. |

Spray Drying Process |
| |
|
Briefly involves : The feed material is pumped from the product tank to the Rotary Disc Atomiser or High Speed Nozzle (located within a ceiling of air disperser) and Sprayed in the drying chamber at a controlled rate. Hot air generated by Hot air generator is passed/ injected in the chamber which contacts the spray resulting in moisture evaporation. The majority of the dried product falls to the base of the chamber and collected below through Rotary air lock valve. The product fines remain entrained in the air and pass to twin high efficiency cyclones for separation and collected through rotary air lock valve or recycled back to chamber top for granulation. Exhaust air from cyclones pass via exhaust fan to wet scrubbing system and clean air thus obtained is exhausted to atmosphere is exhausted to atmosphere through suitable ducting. |

Process operation |
| |
|
Spray drying system consists of four process stages. |
| |
|
(a) Atomization of feed into a Spray.
(b) Spray – Air contact.
(c) Drying of Spray
(d) Separation of dried product from the air. |
